30 Books for the Advanced 4th Grader

Hello!

As Benjamin finished 4th grade, his teacher sent home a reading log with enough space for 30 books. Benjamin is an advanced reader, and he definitely read more than 30 books this summer. Some of these were re-reads for him, many of them come from series, and a good chunk of them are graphic novels. I hope getting to peek at his reading log is helpful to someone looking for books for their 4th or 5th grader.

I told Benjamin he ought to do a post for me, and he was enthusiastic at first, but after typing the names of 30 books he decided not to write any comments. Haha! It was a good thing he typed them up, though, because he misplaced his reading log (in typical 10-year-old boy fashion). Since it was typed, we were still able to return the reading log to his teacher (phew!) and he got those 2 free homework passes he was hoping for.

Benjamin's Summer Reading Log

Hi everyone. This is Benjamin. You may know me from some of my mom's posts. If you don't, click here. I decided to write this post because, why not? I'm a pretty advanced reader, and here are 30 books I read this summer.

Thanks, Benjamin! As I scrolled through my photos to find some pictures of Benjamin reading this summer I noticed that none of the books he's reading in these photos made it onto the reading log. So, if you're curious, they are Crunchby Leslie Connor (my review here), The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: 2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale, and Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson.

  1. Thanks, Alysa and Benjamin. Benjamin is a bit ahead of my daughter (she's in 3rd), but I added some of the graphic novels to her wish list, and will check out some of the others, too. Always good to get kid-tested suggestions!
